SHAKUHACHI CHAMBER MUSIC INTERNATIONAL

SHAKUHACHI CHAMBER MUSIC COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2010
SHAKUHACHI CHAMBER MUSIC INTERNATIONAL PRIZE 2010

this is the second Shakuhachi Chamber Composition Competition.

The aims of this open international composition competition are to:

  • promote the shakuhachi as a modern 'classical' instrument
  • demonstrate the capabilities of the shakuhachi in ensemble with western instruments
  • stimulate composition for shakuhachi together with western instruments and chamber groups
  • raise the level of shakuhachi performance

2010 is the second time this competition has been held. Three compositions are selected by the judges and the winner of the Shakuhachi Chamber Music International Prize 2010 anounced. The three finalists receive a monetary prize.

The three finalists will be offered a publishing deal with Reed Music.

All works submitted for the competitions are placed in our database to enable access by those interested in new works for shakuhachi with western instruments (see 'Register of Compositions'). Links will be made to composers and also to a source for scores and audio where available. The register will also include other works submitted by composers.

The competition will be held regularly (every two years) and each time the rules will be varied to include a different range of western instruments with which to accompany the shakuhachi.

The closing date for the 2010 competition is Friday, 26th February 2010.
Winners will be anounced on the competition website on Wednesday 30th June 2010.
